Medical Recruitment

Recruitment.md is an online resource to aid in the recruitment and retention of today's health care professionals.

February 14- In these tough economic times I feel any potential job opportunities out there should be mentioned so when I came across a story about a new medical center that is opening in Hamilton County I thought I'd share. The story covers a new model for creating medical centers by making them smaller and at a lower cost rather than the huge and expensive ones we've become accustomed to. Although smaller the medical center will create 76 new jobs and those jobs will be filled by doctors along with clinical and administrative support members. Here's a segment of the article:

"Franciscan St. Francis Health Carmel represents a new model in the delivery of health care," said Robert J. Brody, St. Francis president and chief executive officer. "The health center of the future is likely to be smaller, less expensive to build and operate, and have long-term sustainability, based on flexible usage and efficient design."

If you're interested in reading the rest of the article you can here
With the demand for medical care on the rise do feel more of these smaller low cost medical centers should be opened?

August 11- Due to the growing popularity of the laser hair removal procedure, there are now more opportunities than ever to find a job in the industry. For those of you interested in getting into this expanding field I have done the research for you on what the procedure actually is along with the benefits of the procedure.

I came across a physician written website that outlines the process of laser hair removal treatment. The article covers everything from how the heat of the light on the laser is absorbed into the pigment or melanin of the skin, to why that causes the hair follicle to go into a resting phase called telogen. The patient is advised to complete a series of three to seven treatments over a month or two time period. This should lead to a reduction of thickness and amount of hair to the treated area for a long time.

In order to be qualified to perform these procedures, depending on the laws of your state, at the minimum you have to be an aesthetician all the way up to certified dermatologists. I hope this information helps lead you to become a laser hair removal technician and take the steps to become certified right away.

July 23- The demand for the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins has grown dramatically over the years. Many insurance companies now cover these procedures, which has lead to an increase in demand for certified license physician assistants.

If you're unfamiliar to these symptoms or types of treatments I found a very informative doctor written website that discusses both in great length. The http://www.sivein.com site covers everything from sclerotherapy, varicose veins, spider veins, to phlebitis and should be a great source of information for those of you looking to work at a vein center.

--> June 17- I found a great article on the importance for health care providers to invest more in primary care by hiring more doctors, physician assistants, and nurses and how it can really pay for itself in the long run. After the data collected from recent innovations in delivering primary care, Group Health Cooperative has decided to now invest in all 26 of their medical centers by 2010. CEO Scott Armstrong said "At a time when resources are tight, we are so confident in our findings that we are hiring more primary care doctors, physician assistants, and nurses, because we believe this is the best way to achieve our goal of excellent affordable care." Their philosophy of increasing staff has already led to a reduction in emergency room visits and inpatient hospital stays.

Do you think this new strategy of increasing staff now for long term savings will catch on with other health care providers?

May 19- I am curious to see if anyone caught the article regarding recruitment woes in luring United States physicians (specifically, specialists and specialty care), to work with the Department of Health in Guam. Due to the shortages of specialized physicians across the board, they are considering revising their standards for licensure and certifications. It raises the concern that this will begin to be a more standard solution to the staffing shortages. It isnt hard to believe that healthcare providers are finding themselves in desperate positions to try to fill vacancies.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the implications of this solution?

April 15- I have been finding some interesting recruiting videos from different facets of the healthcare community. This one below is a simple video for an Emergency Response Group. Even though it might not be the best quality, they are valuable tools:

This one is great too for nostalgia. It is an old Army nurse recruiting video from WWII.
