Recruiting PhysiciansRetaining quality doctors has become a significant struggle for healthcare providers. With MD demand at the highest it has ever been, compensation alone is no longer sufficient to keep medical practitioners happy. "Where" physicians practice has become an important factor in retention. States like Alaska, where the amount of physicians produced in the state are low, have a difficult time recruiting out of state physicians to fill the demand. The obvious geographical reasons are enough to dissuade doctors from accepting even higher paying salaries. In order to be competitive in today's environment, hospitals and healthcare providers need to have trained internal recruiting staff, leverage outside executive placement firms, and offer substantial compensation packages with fringe benefits.
